Vampire romance survives every cycle of fashion because it is the cleanest metaphor the genre has for appetite: someone who wants you specifically, whose wanting is dangerous, and who has spent a very long time learning restraint. Everything else is set dressing.
The version that works avoids the lore trap. Nobody needs a system of rules about sunlight; they need one rule that costs something, and a character who has been keeping it far longer than you have been alive. Restraint is the engine, not the fangs.
Written about you, the appeal is precise: someone with centuries of practice at self-control, undone by details that are actually yours. That is the joke the trope has always been telling, and it lands harder when the details are true.
